Weston's November Runs on Two Stages While Vista Park Goes Behind a Fence

On Saturday, November 7, one address in Weston has two shifts. In the afternoon, Marci Poppins The Explorer performs at the Weston Community Center, 20200 Saddle Club Road, at 1:30 and again at 3 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., the Regional Park event stage at the same address shows "Toy Story 5" free under the sky. A week later the same stage has a dance band.

Five miles of Weston geography fit into that one park address this season. Part of the reason is the calendar. The other part is what is happening at the city's other big public park.

Vista Park's Last Five Acres Are Scheduled for a November Start

The City of Weston's project page lists November 2026 as the construction start for the PLEX at Vista Park, with completion expected in May 2028. That works out to about a year and a half of work at 18800 Vista Park Boulevard. Vista Park opened in June 2005 as a 30-acre athletic park next to Cypress Bay High School. Until now, its final five acres had never been developed.

The scope is large for a city park:

  • A 45,000-square-foot recreation center with multipurpose rooms, indoor courts, a gymnasium, and an indoor walking and running track
  • A new shaded playground and a splash pad
  • Covered outdoor multipurpose courts under a steel roof, plus an outdoor pavilion
  • More parking and a new access drive connecting to the south parking lot
  • Two natural-grass soccer fields converted to artificial turf

The City says the indoor space answers "a critical shortage" identified in its 2022 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. On September 28, 2026, the City Commission awarded the construction contract to Pirtle Construction Company for $33,792,599. The project page describes what the finished park is meant to be:

"a place where residents can play a game, take a walk, attend a meeting, participate in a program, bring their children to the playground or splash pad, or simply connect with friends and neighbors."

The bid documents also show what happens first. The existing playground is slated for demolition before the new one goes up. The City lists traffic impacts as "None," but it has not posted a phasing schedule showing which lots, fields or play areas close and when. In late October, the City's park and field closures page still showed Vista Soccer Fields 2 and 3 and the Vista turf fields as open. That page updates daily, and it is the one to check before driving a team or a toddler over. The two replacement shelters the City announced in August are new. Whether they stay reachable once the fences go up is part of the same unpublished plan.

So one of Weston's main outdoor gathering places is entering a construction season. The City's own event calendar from now through mid-December centers on a different park entirely.

Every Free City Event This Fall Lands at 20200 Saddle Club Road

The City runs nearly all of its fall programming out of Regional Park and the Weston Community Center next to it. In order:

  1. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1:30 and 3 p.m. The Kid-tacular Show Series brings Marci Poppins The Explorer to the Weston Community Center. Admission is free, and children must be with an adult.
  2. Saturday, Nov. 7, 7:30 to 9:15 p.m. Moonlight Movie in the Park shows "Toy Story 5" on the Regional Park event stage, free.
  3. Saturday, Nov. 14, 7 to 9:30 p.m. WestonNights brings the band FLAVOR to the same stage for a free outdoor concert of current hits and older favorites.
  4. Saturday, Dec. 12, 5 to 6:15 p.m. Symphony in the Park: Holiday Favorites returns to the Regional Park stage, presented with the Weston Music Society and the Arts Council of Greater Weston.

Three of the four fall on Saturday nights at a single stage. That makes Regional Park the closest thing Weston has to a town square this season. The Community Center line, 954-389-4321, handles questions about all of these events.

The one City-related event held elsewhere is the 12th Annual Veterans Day Salute on November 6 at Bonaventure Town Center Club, 16690 Saddle Club Road. It is free for veterans, but the YMCA reports it has reached capacity.

The City calendar has no tree lighting on it. The Weston Journal reported in mid-October that no City Christmas parade or official City tree lighting was listed for 2026. The paper pointed to the December 12 symphony as the City's holiday centerpiece. The tree lighting is happening, but on a different stage.

Market Street Runs the Holiday Calendar the City Doesn't

Weston Town Center sets its own schedule, and its events page carries a flyer for its 2026 Christmas Tree Lighting. The Town Center's Eventbrite listing puts the WTC Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Show on Sunday, November 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. at 1675 Market Street. Two Sundays before that, on November 15, the WTC Craft Show Holiday Edition runs from 2 to 8 p.m. at the same address. On December 13 at 11 a.m., Super Cars & Coffee Holiday Edition takes over.

The split is tidy. The City has Saturdays at Regional Park, and Town Center has Sundays on Market Street. Town Center also has something Regional Park doesn't: a row of places to eat and drink within walking distance of the tree, several of them new in 2026.

  • Café Bastille, 1660 Market Street, opened on January 16, 2026. The Sun Sentinel covered the debut, highlighting pistachio pancakes and French breakfast burritos. It is the obvious brunch stop before the November 15 craft show.
  • TreaHouse, 1830 Main Street, appears in the Town Center directory as a 2026 opening. The kava bar and lounge is open daily from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m., so it stays open well past the 8 p.m. end of the tree lighting.
  • El Club de la Milanesa, 1760 Bell Tower Lane, is the Argentine restaurant the Town Center describes as backed by Lionel Messi.
  • La Condesa Mexican Cuisine, 1800 Bell Tower Lane, is listed as "Coming Soon," with no opening date posted.

A short drive away, Izgara Mediterranean at 1948 Weston Road was named Weston's Best New Restaurant of 2026 in a Best of Weston feature published in July. It's an easy stop on a WestonNights evening for anyone coming from the Weston Road side of town.

Put the two calendars together and the season has a clear rhythm. Saturday nights belong to the City, and Sunday afternoons belong to Town Center. Neither one runs through Vista Park, at least not until December.

December 6 Brings the Crowd Back to Vista Park Boulevard

The one large event that does return to that end of town is the 29th Annual Rotary Run for Tomorrow on Sunday, December 6. It is based at Cypress Bay High School, 18600 Vista Park Boulevard, the campus next to the PLEX site. The half-marathon starts at 6:20 a.m., and the 5K and 10K start at 7 a.m. From 9 a.m. to noon, the City holds a free Health & Fitness Festival open to everyone. At the same hours, the Commission Cup 1-Mile Health Walk invites families from Weston's elementary schools. By then, the PLEX will be about a month into a construction schedule that runs into 2028. Race morning is likely the first time many people see the fenced site up close.

The other project to watch is the Weston North Walking Nature Trail, a stabilized path of about 1.75 miles with ten exercise stations. Construction started in November 2025. The City originally targeted May 2026 for completion, then updated that to "early Fall 2026." As of late October, the project page still shows that target and has not announced an opening. If it opens during the PLEX build, Weston gains one new outdoor space while Vista Park is partly offline. For now, the near-term calendar runs through Regional Park, Market Street and one race morning on Vista Park Boulevard.

A $33.8 million recreation center going up on your side of town is the kind of change that shows up in local conversations long before it shows up in a sales record.
